Children Are A Blessing

When I was pregnant with my first child, her father left me. When she was born, rather than being happy, I was sad because I was alone. My parents resented my baby for denying me the opportunity to fulfill their expectations of me. I married a wonderful man when my daughter turned one.

When I became pregnant with my second child, my husband was not happy because I had had a previous miscarriage and he was scared to go through that again. But everything went well.

When I became pregnant with my third child, my husband was working very little and another mouth to feed was one more responsibility for him to deal with. We couldn't afford another child. We were barely living on credit. We couldn't even afford for me to go to the doctor for prenatal care.

Around this time, a friend asked me to take her to Assist CPC and I did. When we got there, she went in to speak to a counselor and I asked to speak to someone too. I wanted to get some advice about my situation, as I was three months pregnant.

While I talked to my counselor, she asked if I had seen a doctor yet. I told her we couldn't afford it, but that I would be going in two months. Assist offered to send me to a doctor immediately and I wouldn't have to pay anything. I was so amazed with this act of kindness that I cried.

My counselor encouraged me to read the Bible. So far I have read 7 books, and each time I read I feel more at peace with my children and myself. God has taught me through Assist that children are a blessing, not just a responsibility. I have learned to cherish and love my children more and more with each passing day.

Assist has also helped me to understand that I can be and do anything I want, even with three children. I went back to school and studied to become a real-estate sales person. I recently got my license and feel more confident about my future. I thank God for the help He provides through Assist CPC.
